CHAPULIN CANTINA: OAXACAN INSPIRE CUISINE
Art Direction, Web Design, Graphic Design, Merch Development
Chapulin Cantina  |  Jewel City Marketing

THE PROJECT:

A combination of intimate knowledge of Oaxacan cuisine and precise culinary skills to bring the best of these vibrant flavors to Austin, Texas. Chapulín Cantina has been a labor of love for seasoned restaurateurs Ryan Samson & Daniel Brooks. The transformed space at 1610 South Congress transports guests to a lively, fun, and culturally rich Oaxacan experience.

THE PROCESS:

The process for this project was executed in various stages that required daily meetings with the marketing director, the owners and myself. We discussed the importance for keeping the neighborhood spot for the surrounding residence. Their prior restaurant in this same location was quite the staple with many locals and fond memories. The owners wanted the  same type of  fun and inviting, but with more o the Oaxaca dining experience. The restaurant next door is also ran by the same owners, and they wanted the new logo to mimic the neon bubble bee next door.  Naturally, The logo was built in Adobe Illustrator while the print files such as flyers, business card, and menus were created in Adobe InDesign. I soaked up every story they had to tell me about their explorations in Oaxaca from the mezcaleros, and local street art found all around Oaxaca.
